CATS IN BLOOM MURAL
Located in Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania, there is a cat fostering and adoption space. I grew up in a neighboring town and loved going to Cats in Bloom to hang out with the cats in their care frequently in high school. It felt like the perfect setting for a site-specific mural. The space itself is colorful, sunlit, and filled with feline friends, which immediately inspired the direction of the piece. I wanted to capture the lively, welcoming feeling of the environment while also giving a subtle nod to the space’s name.
The concept naturally came together through the pairing of cats and flowers. For the cats’ forms, I drew inspiration from the artwork of Louis Wain, whose playful and expressive style felt fitting for the scene. In the mural, the cats leap and spill out of a basket in a joyful, slightly chaotic way—much like real cats would—bringing movement and personality to the composition while echoing the vibrant atmosphere of the space.
